The Stolen Block Story: Fruit from one of the most exceptional vineyards in the Clare Valley was being purchased by a large producer who never realised how good the fruit was. When the time was right we 'stole' it from under their noses!

These vines are dry-grown and non-irrigated, which means the only water they receive is natural rainfall. This ensures that the fruit they produce are small, concentrated grapes that are full of flavour–not full of water–and this is reflected in the full-bodied wines that are produced from this fruit.

 

2022 'Old Vine' Stolen Block Shiraz (unreleased)

Sourced from a dry grown vineyard that was planted in 1926, this Shiraz has layers of succulent fruit with flavours of ripe dark berries and aniseed. Open fermentation
and maturation in new French oak has resulted in a silky mouth feel with sweet vanilla and mocha on the palate. It has well integrated oak with firm, lingering tannins.

2016 'Old Vine' Stolen Block Shiraz

This exquisite wine has been handcrafted from some of the oldest Shiraz vineyards in the Clare Valley which were planted in 1926.

These dry-grown old vines have deep, strong roots which allow the plant to access deeper moisture and more diverse nutrients and minerals. These vines are steady and reliable and less likely to affected by adverse weather conditions, consistently producing small yields of top-quality fruit year after year.

The grapes have concentrated flavours, balanced acidity, and are hand-picked at optimal ripeness.

Our winemaker Justin Ardill uses traditional winemaking techniques of open fermentation, hand plunging, and maturation in French oak for 22 months to allow this quality fruit to truly shine. The result is a rich, full-bodied wine showing the strength and depth of the old vines with layers of succulent dark berry flavours and a touch of aniseed. The wine finishes with mocha, sweet vanilla, well-integrated oak, and a smooth, velvety mouth feel with firm lingering tannins.
